My Secret Pal scarf is complete!

Finished it tonight, and I love it! It didn’t turn out exactly as I had planned (I was hoping I could block it from curling so much for long enough to tack it down in the braid, but it didn’t work), but it still works just fine. Total yarn used: 3 balls of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk, 1 skein of Koigu Kersti. In the end, after making the fringe, there were exactly 6 inches left of the Alpaca silk!

I plan to wear it with my black leather jacket. I’ll have to track down some more of the Koigu Kersti to make some matching gloves or mittens.

Thank you Minnie again for the goods to make my new fantastic scarf!

Stash update: -1 ball of DB Alpaca Silk; 219.5 in stash

Take Two

I finished Karen’s scarf last night.

And I finished Karen’s scarf today.

Yup, I knitted it TWICE. I overestimated how wide I could make it to still have enough of the novelty yarn and have the scarf be long enough to wear. I had to frog the whole thing and start over today. I went from 12 stitches to 8. But it’s done now! Took the 1 ball (I’m just going to count it as one since when I frogged the original scarf, I rolled it up into 1 ball) of novelty yarn, and almost one ball of the alpaca. I actually measured what I had left, and it’s 43 feet (14 yards, 1 foot). So I’ll have to figure out something to use that in. Perhaps the afghan square I need to knit, although I had planned to use a different yarn for that. Maybe Karen will want fringe and I can add it to the scarf, then that will use up most of the rest.

At any rate, here is Emily modeling it:

And here are photos of my other current WIPs. I have not worked on these yet in February, so this is how they stand pre-contest:
This is the “Secret Pal Scarf.” I’m not going to say what it’s eventually going to look like. But if I’m going to knit on it and have it count for the contest I have to show a photo (even though I wanted to keep it a secret). The Koigu won’t let me leave it alone until March. So that starts me off with a half-ball of Koigu.

And Fletcher. See that wad of yarn? I had frogged it long ago because once I started I decided to change sizes (to small! Can you believe that??? Me needing a SMALL?). I haven’t worked on it in a long time, so I never caught back up to where I was when I frogged it. So that’s 2 half-balls of Kureyon I’m starting with there.

Total balls knit up for the contest thus far: 1.5
Stash update: Knitted 1.5 balls (the scarf above); 233 total in stash

First contest project

My coworker had this novelty-yarn scarf that was really thin. She liked the scarf, but hated how thin and long it was. It was about 6-7 feet long and only 2 inches wide! It just wasn’t very functional.

So I told her I could take it apart and fix it for her.

She gave me the scarf in early January, and it took me a couple of hours to unravel it. I had a couple of leftover balls of Peruvian Collection Pure Alpaca in black from Dad’s scarf, and thought it would be perfect to knit with the novelty yarn to thicken it up and make it actually warm.

So here is the yarn I’m starting with, and how long the scarf was after my lunchtime knitting. The novelty yarn is actually 2 strands itself, one with the copper fur and another strand with little fuzzy bits. Should I count that as 1 ball of yarn or 2 for the contest?

It’s about 10 inches long and 4.5 inches wide. And with the alpaca, it’s rather cozy. Knitting it on US15s.
