Fair Results

I entered 4 items in this year’s Harvest Home Fair.

The Crosshatch socks didn’t win anything.

The Bevel socks won an honorable mention.

The Alphabet Blanket won second prize.

And finally, the Sanquhar Gloves won first prize…AND Best of Show!

The Best of Show award is given across all of the needlework categories (Crochet, Knitting, Embroidery, Needlepoint, Quilts, Machine sewing, Dolls, and Miscellaneous). Usually it’s a quilt that wins the Best of Show, so I didn’t even think there was any chance for that! What a surprise!

The lady who appears to be in charge of the needlework part of the exhibits came over to talk to me when I picked up my things. She told me I have no competition, my work is always so nice (I guess in the 4 years I’ve been entering, they’ve remembered my name now!). Basically, that I’m just competing against myself when I enter multiple items.

I also asked about why they don’t have more categories. She said that they used to, but it got so that there were so few entries in each category, that they were just paying out money to everyone, and they just couldn’t afford it anymore. So, now there’s just the 2 categories for knitting (baby garment or blanket, and then anything else).

So, I finally broke the “lace” trend. Colorwork beats lace.

Sanquhar Gloves

Finished with nearly 24 hours left in the UFOlympics!

Washed, blocked and ready for the fair.
Took the photos last night.
Loaded them to Ravelry this morning, and then I saw it.
Look at the one on the left.
ONE EXTRA REPEAT IN THE HAND (before the fingers start). WTH?
I swear I checked that I was knitting them the same [...]

Most of the action is taking place on Ravelry, so get on over there and join the threads if you’re participating!
I had grand plans of posting my progress every day. It’s now day 4, and you can see how well that turned out. :)
But, I have been knitting every day!
Thank you, Samantha, for drawing [...]

Because it IS a glove!

3 years, 1 month, and 8 days in the making.
Glove #2 is going to be my UFOlympics project. I’m challenging myself to complete the whole 2nd glove during the Olympics.

All Hail Elann.com

Got an email yesterday afternoon that they had restocked the Peruvian Collection Baby Cashmere!
So my PayPal account and I went a-shopping.
At first my shopping cart held 2 balls of all of the colors I bought last time around (which were all of them). But then I realized that the light purple was a different [...]

Thumb

by Natalie May 31, 2005 Crafting

This is really the right glove, not the left. And my thumb is not that long, but I’d rather have them be too long than too short!
I finished the thumb last week.
I’ve been unmotivated to continue since then. I need to have a good block of time to work and space to spread out the 2 [...]
