Fletcher is done. I finished Tuesday evening.
Well, not completely done. It still needs buttons.
I have 3 from my Grandma’s sewing tins that I want to use, but it needs at least 4.
It is HUGE. Now, it is supposed to be oversized, but this is almost silly. The pattern sizes told me to make a Large. I made the Small. I probably should have made the Extra-Small. But, my plan is to wear this as a coat, so I may have other layers underneath, and it is cozy. It’s kind of like a wearable blanket.
I can see myself wearing it to the kids’ high school football games.
Oh, wait, we’re having all girls. ;)
It will be perfect for camping though.
Someday I will add pockets too. I think I want them on the sides, so I will split the side seams and sew them in somehow. I haven’t decided if I’ll do them in fabric or knit. Probably fabric. Maybe a fleece? I have quite a bit of black fleece left from Emily’s Harry Potter cloak.
Stats:
Started: 2/19/05, Finished: 2/28/06
Pattern: Fletcher from Simply Noro, by Jane Ellison.
Yarn: Noro Kureyon, 128, double-stranded. Took 6.5 more balls than anticipated.
Needles: Size 11 Clover bamboo straights and Denise Interchangeables.
Mods: Widened the seed stitch edging to prevent curling. Used different yarn, and larger needles than called for.

Okay, back from Belgium and checking in – I win gold! Just before I
left for Belgium I decided that I’d really like it a little longer than
the current state. So first night back I knit one more ball and bound
off. During closing ceremonies the next night I wove in ends –
actually finished before the part of the flag-passing where the said the
olympics were officially closed (which I’m surprised is quite a bit before
the un-lighting of the flame).
Knew about the pomme frits! Sadly, I had a touch of stomach flu or
something while I was there so mostly ate yogurt – no chocolate, no
waffles, one measly fry!
Even without a blog I’m not sure how I’d share chocolates, but everyone
can have a virtually chocolate on me!
I want the Olympics more often! I still have a number of UFOs and this
was a great motivator for me! Thanks!
As for me & Fletcher, I finished up the hood last night (amazing how that last 1.5 inches seemed like no big deal whe the pressure was off!), seamed it, and began the seaming on the rest of the body. I got one sleeve in place. Tonight I’ll see how much further I can go. At least get the first sleeve done and that body seam.
I still need to hunt down buttons.

I am the Bode Miller of the UFOlympics.
I failed.
I have 1 1/2 inches left to go on the hood before binding off and seaming the whole thing up.
I quit at 10:00 last night, I just couldn’t go on any longer. I probably could have finished that last inch and a half (about 8 rows?) by 11, but my hands refused to knit another stitch of seed stitch.
And I needed a bath before bed. ;)
No medal for me.
But here’s a consolation photo, all of the pieces blocking on the floor, pre-fixing the fronts, pre-hood.
I lost a good 3 days to the cold last week. I would have been finished early if it wasn’t for that!
I might take a night off today, I’m so burnt out on the seed stitch. But part of me also just wants to get it done now that I’m so close. We’ll see what’s up tonight.
…pondering instituting “overtime” for those of us who were ill last week–looks like there were quite a few of us!…

Fixed the other front: check.
Seamed the shoulders: check.
Picked up stitches for the hood: check.
I started knitting the hood yesterday, but didn’t get very far before we had to leave for a party at Kevin’s Boss’s house (and it wasn’t the kind of affair where I could have drug this enormous project along–these people don’t know me…maybe next time though. ;) ). So I lost a good 3+ hours of prime knitting time last night.
Today? It’s a knit-athon baybee. My wrists are going to be so sore, but I can’t give up yet! I’m really only aiming for Bronze at this point (finishing the knitting, not finishing the seaming/finishing). I will be happy with that. If I don’t finish everything today, I should be able to tomorrow.
I have about 3 inches to go on the hood before I do some increasing for a couple of inches, and then knit until it is 13.5 inches long total (I’m at about 2″ right now).
I hate seed stitch.

I thought I had checked this first, but apparently not.
One front to go.
