Which means 2 great things. 1) Thanksgiving. 2) My birthday (Nov. 30)!
This weekend’s festivities included unpinning Madalyn’s cabled scarf from the floor since it was dry. Here is a photo of it with the felted bucket hat.
The angle and no flash makes it look like the scarf is a lot darker than the hat, but they’re really the same in person.
Next up was starting and finishing the mittens (see the SCARY Halloween post below!).
Emily thought she would help me knit one of them (click for larger images).

And since Kris posted her “November Craft To-Do List” today, I thought I’d post mine:
1) Maybe knit some Christmas-colored yarn dishcloths for the ladies who come for Thanksgiving. Maybe not. We’ll see. :)
That’s it. I have NO obligatory knitting or other crafts to do! None! I am planning to knit my dad a scarf for his birthday, but maybe I’ll do it for Christmas. We’ll see. No rush!
And, want to see some Halloween pics?

Madalyn’s cabled scarf and felted bucket hat set is done!
I finished up the scarf last night, washed, and blocked it. I expect it will take at least another day to dry. But it ought to be ready to mail on Monday!
I stopped knitting it when it reached just over 60 inches. However, blocked, it’s 66 inches long. Should be just about right for Madalyn, who is very tall!
I knit about an inch on Kevin’s sweater, but it will be going to the frog pond. I don’t think the pattern I am using will work well with the alpaca yarn at the gauge called for. The fabric is rather loose and drapey. I just think that it will stretch and hang badly on him. The pattern doesn’t have any ribbing or any other edging at the bottom for structure, so i am going to look for a different pattern for him. Surely there is one in my many knitting books and magazines! If not, we’ll just make up our own pattern using the Knitter’s Handy Book of Sweater Patterns.
Come back and visit on Sunday, for a SCARY
Halloween
post!
Another FO last night! Monday night, I started on the mate to that purple mitten I made a month or so ago. Last night I finished it.
Now I have only 3 WIPs! And the Cabled Scarf for Madalyn will be finished this week. We decided yesterday that due to the weight of it (it’s pretty heavy!), 5 feet long would be enough, instead of the 6 feet we originally planned. So that cuts my knitting down by 2-3 days!
Due to the mitten knittin’ last night, I only got 2 inches done on the scarf yesterday. So we’re up to 51 inches. Only 9 to go! Tonight is a good TV night for us, so I’ll get quite a bit done on it while watching “Lost” and “The West Wing.”
Thanks to everyone to commented on yesterday’s post. It was great to see what types of blogs others tend to gravitate to!
I know, you’re thinking, “Two scarves? Blue scarf? What is she talking about?”
Madalyn wondered if she would be able to knit a couple of novelty-yarn scarves (on big needles) for a couple of Christmas presents…would she have time?
Oh, I think so. I started a scarf on Saturday afternoon. It’s the evil Lion Brand Watercolors (aka Thou Shalt Not Attempt To Knit Mittens With This) yarn, and size US15 needles. 2 balls of Watercolors (CO 15 sts, purled garter stitch), and maybe 3 hours later (I knit one ball on Saturday, one ball on Sunday), I had this:
It’s about 6 feet long.
Meanwhile, the cabled scarf grew another 9 inches. It is now 42 inches long. Only 30 to go!
After all of that scarfing, I got the urge to start something new. Having 3 FOs in a couple of weeks will do that to you! I decided to start on Kevin’s sweater. At least one of us ought to have a sweater to wear this winter. I even got him to wind up a skein of the yarn! (What do you think about that, Kris?) I’m using a pattern from the Summer Family Circle Easy Knitting. It calls for cotton yarn, but I’m using Cascade Lana D’Oro. I love, love, love this yarn. It is so nice to work with, so soft. And it’s only 50% alpaca, 50% wool. Just think, the 100% alpaca that I have coming to me some time this week will be even softer! But I digress. :) After measuring him and figuring out some changes to the pattern, I only got my cast on row and 1 row knit before it was time to go to bed.
I also took some new photos of the DNA scarf and Madli’s shawl. The new photos are on the Projects page.
Scarf is now 33 inches long. I finished up the first skein of Cascade 220, and used the russian join to attach the second skein.
There’s always that great feeling when you finish a skein of yarn. Problem is, if you’re not at the end of your project when that happens, then you immediately get a feeling of let down when you look at that next full skein you have to get through.
Luckily, the scarf grows fast (about 3 inches per hour if I’m not doing anything but knitting), so it shouldn’t take too long (perhaps another week?) to get through that next skein.
