Where’s the knitting?

Well, it’s on hold. The reason is I finally went to the hand doctor for my hand, wrist, and elbow pain.

I have a whole lot of tendonitis! In 4 spots in my hand and wrist, and then I have tennis elbow.

Blurry photo – hard to take pictures with my left hand!

The hand has been bothering me for over 5 years (since after Emily was born – very common, it’s called “Mommy Thumb”). I’ve just suffered through it all this time. It’s gotten worse (spreading over the rest of my wrist and into my hand over time because of work I think) in the past year, and then a few months ago my elbow started too.

I had done a test last year – didn’t knit for a long time – and it got worse, not better. So it’s not caused by knitting (I’m sure it doesn’t help, but it’s not the main problem). So I finally decided to make an appointment with the doctor.

So I now have a brace to wear, therapy to do, and then if it’s not better after 6 weeks when I go back to the doctor, they’ll give me a cortisone shot!

Yep, I’ll be all ready to play in the big game. ;)

So that’s been putting a damper on things. I’m trying to use my hand less, and wear the brace as much as possible/needed, so I’m not doing things I’d normally be doing. Including knitting.

I did do some crochet last week (before I went to the doctor), and I think I may even be able to crochet with the brace on. But I just haven’t had the urge to do so. So this will be a very unproductive month yarn-wise!

Sorry to hear about your arm – and I hope you start feeling better very soon!

Natalie, I’m sure that’s difficult. I hope you find some relief. BTW I started an afghan stitch (crochet) afghan while recovering from carpal tunnel surgery a couple years ago when I couldn’t knit. It was a lifesaver!
