I love this yarn. I have a couple of tops that are red & black, and I’ve never had a pair of handknit socks to match them.

Now I do!
The yarn had a lot more orange in it than I initially thought, but it’s still perfect (and thus it also matches anything orangey I may wear too!)
I really like the Patons Kroy sock yarn too. It’s soft and strong, and the colors are nice & vibrant. And it’s available in big-box stores, so it’s easy to obtain. Which I think I will be doing…my mom really liked this yarn too, and wants a pair of her own – but I only have 1 full skein left and some small bits of leftovers. Not enough for a full pair of socks for her (especially since I’ve been informed she wants the legs long!). So I will probably pick up another skein someday.

I wonder how self-striping sock yarn would work on a pattern like my lengthwise scarf (that uses that woven stitch)… could be interesting!
It’d probably work out pretty well, if it had a really long sections of color. There’s a scarf pattern from IK a few years ago that is supposed to work with yarns like that (but I think people had a hard time getting it to work out). http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pooling-colors-scarf
Oh, I wouldn’t want it to stripe, though. The woven stitch kind of breaks up the stripes — which is why I was wondering how self-striping yarn would look with that pattern. It might eliminate the need to weave in ends when all is said and done!
I also made a pair of socks out of that colorway, and love them! Just wore them 2 days ago. Yum yum.
I have to get more clothes that match them. :)
