What do I do with this now? I don’t think I want to ply it, because then it probably won’t be long enough to do anything at all with. At least as a single I can use it along with some other yarn for a hat or something.
But I don’t even know how to get it off the spindle.

How about winding it into a ball?
Good Job – you’ve got more spindle spun yarn than I do! :)
hah! i told you we’d lure you over to the dark side!
and, unfortunately, i don’t know how to get it off a spindle. i have a wheel myself, and have never spindle-spun (and don’t intend to, i don’t think i’m coordinated enough, nor tall enough)
You did it! Please let us know how you proceed with your new yarn. There’s nothing wrong with a one-ply!
yay! Your yarn looks lovely! I think you have to set the twist of the yarn after your done spinning it. I wish I could tell you more! But I only spun once
you need to make a skein with it. This can be done around the back of a chair. (you will need to tie it with string like skeins you buy at the yarn store) Soak it for about 20 minutes in luke warm water with a bit of soap. take it out and roll it in a towel. don’t stir it in the water. Then hang it to dry.

you can actually knit it right off of the spindle. It gives a slightly diagonal look to the stitches which is pretty cool in a scarf.
Get yourself a niddy-noddy and wind off the yarn. You can make your own: http://www.doctordirt.com/blog/niddy.html
Then tie it in a few places and put it in the sink with some baby shampoo (to set the twist). Rinse and hang to dry. HTH:)
Just adding my .02c to the above — when you hang it to dry you could also put a little bit of weight at the end of it to “set the twist”. Lovely colour, and nice looking spindle too :)
