Christmas Gifts

Finally got around to taking pictures of what knitterly things I got for Christmas!

First up, my sister-in-law had been in London, England for the previous semester. She asked me for ideas of what to get me for Christmas that she could find over there. Rowan of course! I told her any Rowan yarn at all. Here’s what she brought home for me:

3 balls of Big Wool. I’m definitely making myself a cozy scarf, and maybe I can squeeze out a simple pair of mittens too? (Perhaps by mixing it with some stash yarn).

Next, my in-laws surprised me with Handknit Holidays.

Which I didn’t ask for. I did have Holiday Knits on my list. I had checked out both and decided that while everything in Handknit Holidays is gorgeous, I would be more apt to knit the simpler (and quicker) projects in Holiday Knits. So I put it on my list instead. But I’m certainly not unhappy to have Handknit Holidays! I really love the Aran Tree Skirt, as does Kevin, and it may go on my To-Knit list this year. I should probably start it soon, it’ll take me all year to finish it! :) My sister-in-law also gave me a giftcard to Barnes & Noble, “to buy whatever knitting books you don’t get.” So Holiday Knits will be in my possession soon!

Finally, the only other knitter in the family came through with A Gathering of Lace.

When Sara and my brother were doing their shopping, he asked her “How do you know which book to get her?” She answered quite simply, “It’s easy, I just get whichever one I’d like to borrow!”

oooh I love the look of that lace book!

And you can definitely get a pair of mittens out of one of those balls of big wool. I got a tam and a pair of medium sized mittens out of 2 balls and had quite a bit left over.

That’s a great way to buy a book for someone, that’s what I do when I buy my sister knitting books. Of course I have a huge library and hers is still rather small.

I love GOL, I’ve only knit the gloves out of it, but have many patterns on my planned knitting list.

I love big wool! I knit a pair of mittens out of one ball with this pattern: http://www.knittingpureandsimple.com/bigmitten.html

You lucky girl!! I love the aran tree skirt in that book too. I don’t have that book, but I’ve seen the picture of it. :) Happy knitting!

Let me know how that Aran Tree Skirt goes. I might have to get that book and make it!
