Did I finish? Did I finish?
Oh yeah, I finished. I knit on that second sock so much on Saturday, that I had it almost to the toe, and by the time I went to bed, my hands felt like jelly. I could barely grip anything! Amazingly, they didn’t hurt the next day at all (I find that knitting on tiny needles, like for socks, don’t hurt my wrists much at all, it’s the big needles that do).
Here’s miss Em modelling her new socks.

She didn’t keep them on for too long. They tend to slide off of her heel a little (I wonder if that maybe means the heel is too narrow or too wide?). They do have a tiny bit of growth room in the toes, so I think once her foot grows a bit, they’ll stay on better. But overall, size-wise, they’re right on. They look almost identical, but they’re one stripe off. I wasn’t about to pull out an entire repeat of color changes to make them identical! I did think it was pretty neat at how close they were after finishing one sock.
Details:
Yarn: Regia Jacquard, Polar
Needles: 5″ size 1 Brittany DPNs
Pattern: Just your basic cuff-down stockinette sock, with a short-row heel (from Simple Socks: Plain & Fancy), 52 sts cast on. Toe made up as I went along.
Started: 1/31, Finished: 2/5

Very cute! Um, I don’t know if the heel would be too narrow or too wide… A wiser socknitter than I will have to weigh in.
Those are quick socks. They look great, too. I hope she grows into them nicely.
Ah, the satisfaction of a job well done. I’d like some of that.
Big needles are hard to use, I agree(esp. the oversized, like 15s).
Very cute. I was instructing a psychiatrist at work on how to knit socks :p Actually, picking up the heel stitches, my worst area!
Pretty socks! I find when the heel is too SHALLOW it slips off the heel. I solved this by adding a small gussett and flap to my yo short row heels.
Hope this helps, email me if you want more info :)
If you want to fix those lovely socks, you might try threading narrow elastic on a needle and running it though the stitches above the heel and 1/2 way around the ankle, just to snug it up at that point so it won’t slip down as easily. Beautiful socks!
